In the brisk morning hours of June 22, a small crowd gathered by a statue being installed in front of a building. Some of the people gathered in small groups, some simply in pairs. Some were well dressed, others plainly; some had impressive video equipment, others a pad of paper. By about 9:30AM the crowd had mostly assembled to its full number of about 40 people of many different ages and styles. Heck, there were even a few girls there.
The statue.. was a giant orc riding a wolf. The building.. was Blizzard Headquarters.
Representatives from most major StarCraft and gaming websites had gathered for an exclusive press conference with Dustin Browder, lead developer for StarCraft 2; Rob Simpson of Blizzard's e-Sports team (those are the two you hear commentating in Blizzard's StarCraft 2 Battle Reports); Karune, the Final Boss of Blizzard's forums and community outreach; and other Blizzard staff as well.
Moletrap, Diggity, and PsyonicReaver were on the scene.
We have now been allowed to tell all (well, almost all) about what we learned while at Blizzard HQ. The main thing that they unveiled was a full array of observation tools that will be available in StarCraft 2. Moletrap has written an article detailing everything that will make SC2 great for commentating, watching, and analyzing games.
Read it here!In addition, we all got to play the newest build of StarCraft 2 for most of the day and see what the game is like so far. Diggity, Moletrap, and PsyonicReaver will be telling you all about the new features, unit changes, game dynamics, etc in a live Q&A session.
UPDATE: Q&A Session is finished! You can download the whole thing as an mp3
HERE, with special guest appearances from LzGamer and Artosis. If you want to discuss the podcast, or if you didn't get to ask your question, you can still go to
this thread and ask away.
Also, here's some brand new
HD Starcraft 2 gameplay footage to whet your whistle!
HQ download available in .AVI format.
