The Rundown: A Review of Week 15 By BachHo
Woongjin and eSTRO ran away with two while other top contenders started off strong in Week 1 of the Winners League. Read on to catch all the action. Read MoreShow/Hide Spoiler CJ Entus took two heavily disappointing losses to open the week when eSTRO and Woongjin shoved reality into their faces. The team struggled all Round 2 and were looking to get back into shape in the format that brought them a title in 2009, but alas, it wasn't meant to be as they got royally owned by two of this season's rising powerhouses. KT Rolster picked up another win after Flash was able to conqueror Jaedong in their epic rematch. KHAN was also able to pick up a solid win thanks to Stork, who took down fantasy in the final game to end T1's chance of a comeback after firebathero, of all players, opened with a 3-0 shocker. Air Force ACE came within inches of winning their first game of the round, taking Woongjin all the way to an ace match thanks to GoRush's wins off of ZerO and free, but fell in the final match. Next time ACE, next time. Looking at the overall standings, KT Rolster remains at the top by a fairly wide margin while STX and MBC holds on to the second and third spot. Woongjin and eSTRO's wins flew them up the charts, putting each in a solid top six position. The battle for sixth place remains tight with six teams packed together. With the exception of Hwaseung, the five teams will be playing two games apiece this week, so there are sure to be many more changes to come. Week 1: Week of Jan 24Show/Hide Spoiler January, 24, 2010

The Stats Corner: Star-Rollin' By Revo
A new baller strolled into town during Week 1. Find out who ran away with six wins in the opening week of Winners League in this edition of the Stats Corner. Read More...Show/Hide Spoiler Winners League Week 1 has been totally hilarious. For starters, a certain player who went 0-5 in R1 and R2 brought himself above .500 in less than three days. Guess who? Hint: Realpenguin is his #1 fan. Yep, Protoss underachiever Guemchi took to the spotlight this past week all-killing CJ Entus, and finishing off Air Force ACE without a single loss. Holy cow, 6-0 on the week; Stars fan have got to be rolling on the floor from laughter right about now. But wait, that's not all! Firebathero and Light, the two Terrans who always demand attention but usually come up short also get their day in the limelight. Firebathero started his Winners League journey with big wins against both Bisu and BeSt, while Light nearly all-killed Hite SPARKYZ. Also to note: XellOs earned his first televised win since June, and Gorush has won as many games in three days as he did in all of R1 and R2. ACE Fighting! This week, let's focus on the new maps. First things first, neither Judgement Day nor Roadrunner seem to be Protoss friendly at all. Roadrunner's balance seems to lean towards Zerg - the two Terran wins on the map appear to be instances of the Terran outclassing the Zerg opponent. Meanwhile, Judgement Day seems to favour Terran. However, with less than one week of play on either of these maps, it's difficult to tell whether these early results will become a trend or not. Terran Toss-Up: The Highlights of Week 15

Things to Watch for Week 16Show/Hide Spoiler T1 and CJ kick off the week with a high profile TvT between fantasy and sKyHigh. After struggling in Round 2, both players kicked it into overdrive for Week 1, delivering several wins for their teams. Both CJ and T1 have been hit-and-miss over the past several weeks, and are looking for a major rebound to get themselves back into the swing of things. Expect this to be a grinder. Coming off a strong Week 1 start where they rose over ACE and CJ, eSTRO looks to continue it's momentum with KHAN and T1 in Week 2. Look for Really to be the difference-maker when he puts his TvP to the test against JangBi and Stork and later down the line with BeSt and Bisu when eSTRO takes on T1. firebathero flexed his muscles last week, taking surprise wins from BeSt and Bisu. He'll have to overcome the eSTRO youngster Flying this week, a player who has brought some interesting challenges to his opponents thanks to his creative play. eSTRO's Action striking a pose. Expect to see a lot more of this kid in the coming weeks. STX also has two major games this week against hite and MBC. MBC put up an impressive Week 1 display thanks to Light and his three-win opening against hite. Light has become a major X-factor in the league; expect him to be the one that makes or break the series for MBC this week. MBC will have to take down the depth machine this time around. Look out for some potentially major games between MBC's Light and Sea and STX's Kal, Calm, and Hwasin. Finally, Woongjin takes on OZ in what could be either a memorable all-kill or a travesty depending on OZ's star Lee Jaedong who gets the go-ahead spot. Will the Tyrant be able breakdown free, ZerO, Kwanro, and this season's first all-killer GuemChi? We'll see later this week. GuemChi practicing his parallel bars. Damn, Koreans don't even need bars. That's all for this edition, enjoy the games! Team Coverage of the Winners League

Awesome writing. I really appreciate your coverage.
I was doing some schedule analysis at the KeSPA english site. It looks like after the third week of proleague the teams will mostly be uneven in terms of the number of total matches they have played.
I assume this evens out by the end of the season?
Also, does anyone know where there is a good overview of the structure of the Proleague? I know there are various rounds, and its Bo7 for each match, but I still have questions. How many weeks does each round last?

They always balance it out somehow. Week 1 was actually completely uneven only four teams playing twice, which was unusual. It will work itself out. The format is the following for Proleague: Round 1: Standard, each round is always seven weeks. Teams always play each team once, scheduling always works out so that it happens. Best-of-five in standard format. Round 2: Standard Round 3: Winners League, best-of-seven format. For more info, check back to the last issue of the Weekly. Round 4: Standard Round 5: Standard

QUOTE (BachHo @ Jan 30 2010, 02:00 AM) They always balance it out somehow. Round 4: Standard Round 5: Standard So... after much head banging tonight, I figured out the nuances of the Winners League schedule. I just have to say, Kespa's website sucks. 7 weeks. -Week 1: there are 8 matches, 4 teams compete twice -Weeks 2 through 6: there are 10 matches, 4 teams compete once -Week 7: there are 8 matches, 4 teams compete twice By the end of the season each team will have played 11 matches. There are only 4 days in an 8 match week. Teams that compete on Day 1 compete again on Day 4. There are 5 days in a standard 10 match week. If you play on Day 1 (Saturday), then you play again on Day 4 (Tuesday). Day 2 (Sun) plays again on Day 5 (Wed). And the teams that compete once play in the middle of the week on Day 3 (Mon). I don't know why I was obsessing to figure this out, but it looks like Kespa made an error on their website. For Week 3 they have ACE playing once and FOX playing twice. When you add up the numbers for the rest of the season (the full schedule is up) this puts ACE at 10 matches and FOX at 12. If someone has a connect they could try emailing them. I am going to go back to trying to learn Korean. Here is the link to my numbers. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tTp...amp;output=html**(2/6) Looks like they schedule on Kespa's site has been adjusted
