Week 9 Standings and Notable MatchesShow/Hide Spoiler Samsung KHAN firmly held their ground after warding off two heavy contenders in OGN and Woongjin this past week. Lecaf Oz also kept their second place spot nicely with a clean sweep of KTF. While these two powerhouses hung on to the top positions, the rest of the pack hung on as another week of wild changes yet again moved teams all over the chart. MBC pulled off a key win against STX to jump up a spot and knock STX from third to fifth. In an odd twist, despite losing their one game this past week to WeMade FOX, SKT1 jumps up two spots to the seventh place position! T1 can thank CJ and KTF as both teams tumbled past T1 this week due to some brutal series, especially CJ's devastating 1-3 loss to Air Force ACE. With KTF and CJ falling, the whole bottom half of the standings find themselves in a dead heat for the final playoff position this week. Slowly, but surely, teams are starting to break away from the pack. If any of these teams burn out anytime soon, that could spell instant disaster. If there was one team to worry about, it certainly is CJ. After a promising start thanks to their new star Zerg Effort, CJ has tumbled their way down the standings as their old-school players keep falling to the newcomers. Watch for eSTRO and WeMade to make their move up the charts thanks to players like SangHo and Mind stepping up big time.

Player, Map, and Matchup Statistics GaloreShow/Hide Spoiler By the Numbers is your number one pit stop for all your Proleague statistic needs. The numbers were calculated by SC2GG's special supercomputer hidden deep in the jungles of the Amazon rainforest and zapped over to our headquarters for your viewing pleasure. Top Players After weeks of battling for the top spot, BeSt and Flash finally get outdone by 2008's official Proleague monster, OGN's Leta. With a stellar 14-4 record and an even more stellar 3-0 ace match record, Leta has been doing everything OGN has asked for and more. It will be interesting to see if his Starleague play will have any affects on him later this season. OGN will want to keep him in tip-top shape as they hang on to their playoff spot. Firebathero had another excellent week, netting two key wins and helping KHAN secure their first place ranking for the week. His TvP may still be a question, but his TvT and TvZ are still miles ahead of the competition. On the flipside, Calm was the major drop for this week, losing both of his main games this week. He made up for it with a big ace match win against CJ however, so I'm not worried about him just yet. Outside of the top ten we have a complete reversal from last week. The hungry Zergs that were waiting to break the top ten last week have been overthrown by Raynor and company this week with a flood of Terran breaking back into the top twenty. UpMagiC, Light, fOrGG, fantasy, and Mind are now waiting on the sidelines in hopes of getting into the game. With Rush Hour III and Neo Harmony's Terran bias in action, expect these guys to keep crawling up the list. Map Balance Race Distribution by Map Can you say imba? Rush Hour III has far and away the most bias map of the entire Proleague season. Its heavy vulture traffic has steered the Zerg and Protoss far out of the city. There simply is no hope for any other race on this map. Zergs haven't just been demolished by Terran on Rush Hour III, they've been constantly getting crushed the entire round. The stats don't lie, Zerg have not been faring well on most of the maps this round with the exception of Neo Requiem and to a lesser extent Medusa, but even then Zergs haven't exactly had much breathing room in either map as of late. Between the incredible variety of devastating mech builds and the pitch-perfect SK Terran play of players like Sea, Zergs have simply been overwhelmed as of late. On the bright side, Neo Harmony has slowly proved to be more balanced by the day. Despite the inherent Terran advantages of the map, Protoss have slowly found ways of staying competitive there and holding their ground. Sin Chupung-Ryeong on the other hand has proven to be another Zerg graveyard, as the swarm have gone a miserable 0-6 against opposing races. The maps this season have become distinctly defined race-wise. Mirror matches have gone way up in frequency as coaches have started to play safe with their rosters.
p4NDemik's Players of the Weekby p4NDemik
Players of the WeekShow/Hide Spoiler Happy holidays SC fans! If you're tired of watching hours of Proleague VOD's just to be able to keep up with how some of the big names have been performing, you've come to the right place. I'm here yet again to bring you the best and worst of the last week of Proleague play. Read on - I'll tell you who earned their keep for their team and who may just be getting a lump of coal from their coach on Christmas morning. _____________________________________________________________ Anytime (right) led ACE to their second win all season with his 2-0 week'MVP of the Week: Anytime, Air Force ACEWhat's this? An ACE player as the MVP of the week? Impossible. Improbable. Implausible. Yet, I can legitimately claim that Anytime has earned this honor. After Reach dropped the first set of Saturday's match against CJ Entus, Casy and MuMyung set the tables for Anytime by winning their games against Kwanro and Much, and Oh Yeongjong did his job by taking down Movie on Medusa. While that was the last win that ACE would get as a whole, Anytime was not done. Matched up against Sea three days later, Anytime would capitalize on Medusa's Protoss favoring ways in PvT, defeating Sea with a well-timed push and some exceptional storms. For giving all those ACE fans out there a glimmer of hope, Anytime is my MVP of the Week. _____________________________________________________________ Clutch Player of the Week: Mind, WeMade FOXIt's been said many times: Mind's weakness is his MnM play. So, when he was faced with a TvZ game against s2 on Destination what did he do? Why he went mech of course! More importantly he executed his mech build well, winning a very long, drawn out game with solid defense. In fact he never even had to pressure s2's natural or main, he just sat back and said "Bring it." Playing Fantasy in the ace game, the Scholar Terran pulled off a proxy factory into a strong contain, keeping his Terran foe trapped for almost the entirety of the game - long enough to get a suffocating advantage. Mind did well last week to help stem the flow of losses on a struggling WeMade team, and for that he's my Clutch Player of the Week. _____________________________________________________________ LVP of the Week: fantasy, SK Telecom T1Fantasy's streak of five straight Proleague wins came to a catastrophic end last week against WeMade FOX after two losses to keke and Mind. While the aforementioned loss to Mind definitely played a part in him earning this placement, it was his play versus keke that was truly deserving of LVP. In a game that everyone was expecting him to take easily he made one error, and while it was only a momentary lapse, it was no doubt a major blunder. After moving out his initial marine, medic, and firebat army to posture for a potential break and force keke to build up some sunkens, Fantasy left his front door unattended, as his marines and medics back home sat idle at their rally point, out of position to defend his wall. Keke quickly smelled his opportunity and swooped in with a control group of zerglings, causing fatal damage to the main of the OSL runner-up. This one dunderheaded moment would go a long way to SKT1's loss against WeMade.
Sniping the CompetitionShow/Hide Spoiler This is a great time to be a Samsung KHAN fan. This week, they went 2-0 in Proleague matches for the second time this season, repeating the same wins from Week Two against KTF MagicNs and Woongjin Stars. Before we get to this week's action, I'd like to take a quick moment to introduce our boys in blue...and black. ProtossStork - KHAN's Protoss lineup is definitely their strength. Not only is Stork the top-ranked Protoss player right now, he is currently the number one KeSPA-ranked player. Stork, of course, was known as the King of Silver for getting second place in so many tournaments, but he was able to take gold in the Incruit OSL not too long ago. Stork's PvT is basically legendary, and even though his PvP is no longer the best around, he is still one of the best and has even been improving in that matchup lately. It is also worth noting that even though Stork has been losing quite a few matches since the OSL, he seems to now be ready to come back for another title run. So, even though other non-KHAN Protoss players such as Bisu and BeST have been competing for the top-ranked Protoss position, Stork is not out of the drawing yet. Stork's Proleague record is currently 9-5. JangBi - JangBi is currently sitting as the second highest ranked Protoss on Samsung KHAN, but he is definitely no slouch as KeSPA's number four player in the world. JangBi is not being used in the Proleague as much as Stork, but he has a nice record of 6-2 currently. JangBi has very good PvT win-ratio and a good PvZ win-ratio, both over 60%, though his only Proleague losses this season were to the Zerg players EffOrt and Hyvaa. TT - Poor TT... Due to the presence of JangBi and Stork on the team, TT does not get a lot of action. His current win-record in the Proleague is 2-1, winning two games against BackHo and losing a game to sAviOr. Despite the implications of those matches, TT's strongest win-ratio is against Zerg with his Protoss and Terran win-ratios trailing behind. TT has taken games from Free, YellOw, and GGPlay in the past, but he still has a ways to go before being considered a premier player. Terranfirebathero - Firebathero is a name that likely brings a reaction from any competitive StarCraft fan that hears it, whether it is positive or negative. Regardless of personal opinions, Firebathero has been getting stronger and stronger in all matchups, though it is very well known that he is weakest against Protoss. Despite any weaknesses, Firebathero holds the strongest Proleague record on KHAN currently with a 12-4 win-record. He has been playing a lot of TvZ lately due to his high win-ratio in that matchup, but he is also a great TvT player. FrOzean - FrOzean, on the other hand, has the worst Proleague win-record on KHAN at 0-6. He has managed to take some wins in the past against Jaedong, BoxeR, July and other stronger players, but his performance recently has really been tearing apart his stats in all matchups. Zerggreat - KHAN is definitely lacking talent in the Zerg department, at this point. Great, also known as Hades, has the highest win-record for the KHAN Zerg players at 5-3, but his overall performance is certainly not great. He has been around a while, long enough to establish a mediocre overall win-ratio of 45.45%. If Great was ever the Zerg hope for KHAN, I don’t believe there is much stock in continuing to treat him as such. He has a nice win-ratio of 66.67% against Zerg, but the only high-ranking Zerg player he has defeated is GGPlay, which was in May of 2008. Great was knocked out of the GomTV Classic Season Two recently by sAviOr, and his win-ratio against Terran is abysmal at 16.67%. Juni - Juni is a new KHAN Zerg player that is currently 3-2 in the Proleague, including this week’s win against Tempest. Juni is one of KHAN’s Zerg players that is getting a lot of attention in the hope that he can rise to be a top KeSPA player. At this point, KHAN definitely lacks a top-ranked Zerg, and many are looking at Juni to be a future star. His play against Tempest wasn’t incredible, but it is no small feat to win against a player that has defeated GGPlay and Jaedong in the last month as Tempest has. JiHyun - With only one Proleague game under his belt, JiHyun's current win-record is 0-1. Though his strongest win-ratio is against Zerg, it is only 42.86% and he has yet to beat any Zerg players of note. In fact, his Proleague loss was to Jaedong, showing that JiHyun is still not ready to take on top-ranked players, even in his strongest matchup. JiHyun's overall win-ratio is 33.33%. I'm pretty sure that this is not the Zerg player KHAN is looking to play a lot, at the moment. oDin - With a few more Proleague games played than JiHyun, oDin has a worse win-record of 1-4, taking a game from Tempest in October. oDin has been around for a few years and has wins against BoxeR, GGPlay, Free, Reach, even taking a game from Jaedong, but these wins are spread out over the last couple years and show no consistency. oDin's win-ratio against Zerg and Protoss are about 50%, but his overall win-ratio is only 38.60%. If Juni doesn't turn out to be KHAN's strong Zerg player, they definitely aren't going to find it in oDin. _____________________________________________________________ The first series against KTF only lasted three games as KHAN sniped their opponents. Be sure to at least check out the first set, Stork versus Flash, that was done as the Commentary of the Week by Rise and Cholera. However, the real excitement was in the five-game match against Woongjin Stars. _____________________________________________________________ The second series started again with Stork, but he was up against GGPlay, a Zerg opponent, this time. Considering that Stork has dropped quite a few matches in the Proleague recently and is personally weakest against Zerg players, this game served as a good-sized hurdle for Stork to jump over and establish a win-streak that started with Flash. Stork must have had a confidence boost from his win against Flash earlier in the week as he played incredibly aggressive against GGPlay from the beginning. Stork not only went for a proxy gateway, but he also warped in a forge, pylon, and multiple cannons to block off the bottom of GGPlay’s ramp. GGPlay spent almost the entire game just trying to get out of his base. Even when he did, though, Stork continued producing cannons, eventually demolishing the last of the Zerg troops. This is definitely a match you will want to watch. This is when the Zerg said, "Uh oh..."In his match this week, Great was up against a Protoss player, Free. Great’s win-ratio against Protoss is 42.86%, but has never gone up against a high-ranking Protoss before Free. It was no surprise to see Free win the game, though Great was able to hold out for quite a while by throwing hoards of zerglings into the Protoss troops. Great was on the defensive from the early game, and it was only a matter of time before Free finally pushed Great back so far that they were fighting in Great’s main, ending one of the bloodiest games I have ever watched. The match may be worth a viewing just for that. Carnage! The third game in the series featured oDin, yet another KHAN Zerg being tested this week. This game against MVP was the least exciting of the week for KHAN, despite MVP going with a staport build. oDin seemed to struggle adjusting to MVP’s early wraiths, unable defend his drones and, therefore, his economy. In a matter of minutes, the Terran was far ahead in unit-producing ability. It was only a matter of time before MVP got Woongjin their second win of the series. Firebathero had the pressure of keeping KHAN alive in the match, but he was also up against another strong Zerg player. Despite losing the last four Proleague games before facing Firebathero, ZerO has previously taken games from great Terran players like Flash, Mind, and Iloveoov in the veteran’s comeback game. For the first part of the match, ZerO seemed to have the win as he killed large amounts of marines and medics with zerglings and mutalisks and then destroyed every building at the Terran expansion except for the command center. Even though Firebathero was able to float his second command center to his main, he was effectively contained and sustained a lot of damage as ZerO’s mutalisks destroyed several turrets and continued to get marine kills. However, Firebathero bounced back quickly by launching science vessels in combination with more medics and marines. Firebathero got his expansion back up and running again while shutting down one Zerg expansion and then pushing to ZerO’s main. Knowing he was done, ZerO handed KHAN their second win of the night and sent the two teams into an ace match. This does not look good for Firebathero...JangBi, KHAN’s second powerhouse Protoss player, took the ace match against ZerO in a quick game that featured some great psionic storms and archons, steamrolling Zerg units with the help of some zealots. JangBi had some pressure to win the game and the series for his team, but he handled it like the top-tier player he is, with his boyish grin and ever-increasing skill level. _____________________________________________________________ KHAN is sitting high on top of the Proleague standings. Though they could use some good Zerg talent and perhaps one more high-level Terran, the team has shown that they know how to get series’ wins while showing some very entertaining games. _____________________________________________________________ Full Results & VODs Samsung KHAN vs. KTF MagicNs (12/14/08 - Commentaries by Cholera/Rise) VOD// COMM: Stork > Flash on Neo HarmonyVOD// COMM: Juni > Tempest on Colosseum IIVOD// COMM: firebathero > 815 on Rush Hour 3Unplayed GamesShow/Hide Spoiler Additional Commentaries by NukeTheStarsShow/Hide Spoiler Samsung KHAN vs. Woongjin Stars (12/17/08 - Commentaries by Rise) VOD// P1/P2/P3: Stork > GGPlay on Sin Chupung-Ryeong VOD// P1/ P2/ P3: great < free on AndromedaVOD// P1/ P2/P3: oDin < MVP on Rush Hour 3 VOD// P1/ P2/P3: firebathero > ZerO on Destination VOD// P1/ P2/P3: JangBi > ZerO on Sin Chupung-Ryeong

Round 2 Week 4 ScheduleShow/Hide Spoiler
What to WatchShow/Hide Spoiler With Starleague kicking into high gear, we're slowly seeing more B team players coming out for the games in place of the stars. Expect this to make a huge impact on standings for this round. The two biggest series of the week will no doubt be in T1's hands as they take on Lecaf Oz and Samsung KHAN. If T1 wanted to make a statement and move way up the charts, this is the week for them to do it. T1 knows it too, and have sent completely stacked lineups this week to meet the challenge. We have a ridiculous series in store between KHAN vs T1 as KHAN's JangBi, Stork, and Firebathero all collide head on with T1's BeSt, Bisu, and Fantasy. This is about as high profile as it gets, do not miss out on this potential Proleague grand finals matchup.
Outside of these big names, look for the bottom of the pack to make their move up the standings. WeMade and eSTRO both have vital games against CJ and MBC this week. If both win out, they could find themselves in very strong positions. CJ has been struggling overall, so this could be a make-or-break week for them. This is also going to be a make-or-break week for OGN as they also have to play KHAN and Oz this week. They really can't afford to drop two games at this point, but with some stiff competition waiting for Yarnc and Leta, they may be some trouble this time around.
Special Side NoteShow/Hide Spoiler The Proleague Weekly will be taking next week off to enjoy the holidays. We'll be back to rock the new year with a special edition of the Weekly in two weeks though, so stay tuned! From the SC2GG news staff, happy holidays!

Peanut opens with a risky 9-probe-into-false-modesty build that's designed to lure Radivel into a false sense of security. But Rad scouts it early and counters with a perfect if-it-looks-like-you're-winning-I-might-grab-my-PC-and-throw-it-out-the-window, also known as the "one factory into fake system crash" build. His vast experience in high-pressure situations is really showing today.

QUOTE (p4NDemik @ Dec 21 2008, 03:22 PM) He won't be able to play for SKT until at least January, as he is not on their 12 man roster for December. Once he's on their roster for January it's anyone's guess as to when he would play in his first game back for them.
His military service period of 26 months is over, and now that he has been discharged he can no longer play for ACE. Great job on the PL Weekly as usual guys...really impressive! FK I loved your KHAN writeup, even though I hate KHAN. As for Boxer, to be honest he may never see professional play again. It's unclear what his role at T1 will be, but he'll no doubt have a huge part to play behind the scenes (as captain, the position vacated by GoRush, who will now enter his military service). Boxer will need at least several months' worth of hard practice to get back into form, and even then it's hard to see him competing with Fantasy, T1's current go-to Terran. Even if Boxer isn't really competitive enough to crack the lineup solely based on his current skill, T1 might just throw him in for a match against a weaker opponent, like they have GoRush and iloveoov in the past. So there's still some hope for those who would like to see Boxer in the booth again ASAP.
