Hello. I'm not sure if what I have asked in my title is the right way to say it, so I will include a screenshot, showing you what I mean.

What I have circled in both Red and Blue are the "page identity icons" I am referring to.

The one circled in BLUE is the one that is, obviously, there. If you go to the Forums part of the website, the icon will be there. Same with if you bookmark the Forums of the website, as you can see in my bookmarks bar.

However, circled in RED is the one that seems to have been forgotten. The main SC2GG homepage, http://www.sc2gg.com, lacks a "page identity icon." Is this just an oversight by the staff? Before the site had that big crash several months ago, there was a page identity icon for the front page, but it hasn't been re-added since.

As you can see, all of the other bookmarks on my bar have identity icons; so my inner-OCD decided to bring this to your guys's attention.

This also bothers me, but the one you circled in blue is in fact the IPB symbol, not ours. Hasn't this topic been discussed somewhere else?

I think this should be "fixed" now. The way those symbols work is the server that is about to send you the webpage you requested looks for a filed called "favicon.ico" which has to be of the specific size (25x25 pixels I think). All I did was just copy that file from the forum directory to the main directory and it now shows up on my browser when i go to www.sc2gg.com. If someone wants to design an icon for us.... that'd be cool smile.gif

Can you explain how exactly to do that? I'd be perfectly fine jut copying the Forum icon and using it for the homepage, but I'm not exactly sure where to cut and paste the "favicon.ico" to and from.

I just don't like the "Blank new document white page" as the icon. I'd like it to be something distinguishable so that I KNOW what the bookmark is.

Actually, there's a more efficient way of doing this using metadata in the header of each HTML file.

Awesome, I see that the powers that be have set an icon to the SC2GG homepage!

Thanks so much!

Yeah, Tyrael - what I meant was that I actually did this on the side of the server, since I have access to it; you can't change it on your end (I don't think) no matter how hard you try.

Omi - how would you do this with metadata? I've never heard of that technique...

The issue has once again resurfaced... If someone wants to fix it again that would be great, if not then I'm just letting you guys know.

The issue we have is we can't make any icon that's 16x16 pixels that says SC2GG in it, it's not big enough.
it always looks messy..

Here, take a look for yourself:
http://www.sc2gg.com/hosted/wc8/sc2gg_16_16.png

Would having that there really make a difference?

It’d be nice. Makes identifying SC2GG browser tabs and SC2GG bookmarks easier.
What about just using the stylised “II” in the favicon? That should be possible in 16×16.

Ah I see. Well, no, it doesn't make a big difference. Like Socke said, it's just nice to be able to see SC2GG bookmarks and tabs at a glance. Its more of a simply aesthetic thing than anything necessary. It was fixed for a while, used the spotlight-esque image it used in the screenshot I showed, and now it's back to a white page icon. I was just letting you guys know that it reverted to that. If, like Socke proposed, you simply made a stylized II, that would be awesome! It's not a big problem though. Thanks!
