commentators should have a rating system, as in :cholera 10, huskysc 9.5... and so on, as the average of ratings given by watchers. that way, if my favorite commentators are not on, i know where to go for good commentating. (not to say that some commentators suck, its just that some know more than others, some are funnier, and some are more consistent.)

why not just watch a set of theirs and seem if you like them as a commentator you cant really rate them too well because ones persons 10 could easily be another persons 1 just because of the commentators voice or some small thing that is different.

There are no shortage of starcraft commentators, so i'd say just watch the people you like.
if you're looking for new people to watch check the different commentator threads or the front page

Everyone is looking for something different in a commentary. There's no good way to combine everybody's opinions. Take Husky as an example. You rate him 9.5, but somebody with a deeper knowledge of starcraft might find his commentary to be too superficial, and rate him very low. Just take the time to give all the commentators a chance, and you won't need this system.

I agree with the above replies. To be honest, it would probably be easiest to check the VOD page and just check out some of the people commentating recent games. That way you not only will be able to watch recent games, but you'll be watching them from commentators who are active in creating videos.

Oh course, this commentating forum is also great, although not all commentators remember to update their threads when they post new videos.

i don't agree with ranking system for Commentator.
I don't see any reason to compare them in terms of ... what?

I'm big fan of choleraSC, moletrap, diggity , rise and klazart but

i can't rank them,because i like them from different reasons and you don't have fair transducer which give you proper rank.

Another things,because Commentators are changing so my ranking given today is wrong tommorow.

when i heard them first time i thinked eee... crapy boring...
i looked to his account some times account (because moletrap recorded something with them) and i discoverd ... hmm... wow,they are cool, how's looks other commentaries ... and result was ... wow, quite well. i like it. i will watch it.

Now i thinking that was unfair to evaluate them without gave them time.

I think,if anybody want rank them,then best way is to send them pm or email and Say good word to them !without! compare to others.It is most valuable what anybody can do (or maybe donation )
I think,Commentators deserve that.

if i don't like somebody comms that i simply don't watch it without saying anything.

Good to hear that we grew on you, pastor. I would agree though. I think all commentators should be fully open to constructive feedback from viewers. I for one will readily admit various weaknesses I have, and have done so on many occasions when I miscall a build or something. Simply saying the someone sucks compared to another commentator is not only disheartening, but also confusing, considering that it's completely based on the viewers personal preferences.
