I have just lost a TvP on python against random pub on battle net and usually for TvP, it ranges from adapting your opponent to knowing counter build orders and etc. To my extent of knowledge that has been expanded an inch more after this one game that I have lost and I've come to share this to all.
Flaw of the game: As Terran, I usually build at choke and go 1 fact FE because that is the standard BO I go vs Toss in python. I also usually build 1 marine but sometimes 1 rine isn't enough to kill a probe going around your base so I also understand why ppl build 4 rines and by the time, probe will be killed and you will have your tank up + mines upgraded. During those time intervals, you would put up your CC and begin setting everything up, ENG bay and etc for a more secure tight base.
Adapting: I know how his protoss is and he usually FE's and doesn't go rvr at all nor shuttles and he still manages to beat me haha.. lol
The standard BO of toss is after gate + cybo --> range, then robo --> obs. Toss has the advantage of containing you till early to mid game, then keeping at watch with their observers. Now, this game, he has expanded to his 3rd near his natural while I set up my natural still for lateness.
I scouted his 3rd actually with my 2 vults and started thinking that he wasn't going for any rvrs, nor is he not gonna go dt's so I figure I could harass his 3rd expansion without turrets/scan.
But forgetting that his obs is around my base and in front of my army, every move I make he can counter easily.
Point of the game: So basically, I had 2 options, get armory --> 2 goliaths? range or no range, you can still kill the obs I believe with proper micro. Academy --> scan and get those obs. Note, this will take even more time to tech up so you'd have to spend minimal on your army or stop production at one point if the precise timing is to match up with Toss's 3rd expansion. Then scan for the observers that are OUTSIDE of your natural and hopefully you will be able to kill it and move out(still scout out for any hidden goons, very carefully).
2nd option is to wait it out, build your econ + army after securing your two bases, then get Starport --> 1 dropship(just for tanks, your vults will be fast enough to evade goons). I say this build order works is when I assume by securing your main + natural is when you have a few turrets around your two bases so Toss can't get observers in and so he won't know if your going drops or not.
Conclusion: Going for Toss's third with the cliff and harass, then after, just macro up and hope for a clean GG. Take note though, this only applies to Python.. on other maps, it will not be that effective and will be another strategy to counter in TvP.
