So I have been playing WoW for a long time now but I can't stand it anymore and I want to get back into SC before SC2 is released. It has been about 7-8 years since I have played so I have never played really competitively or anything. I want to know what some of the basic builds for PvZ, T, P are so that I can practice them and try to improve my micro/macro while learning these builds as a stepping stone. Any advice here would help since I am a total noob, like hotkey tips and stuff.
Thanks!

Edit - Ok, I think I posted this in the wrong section of the forums, it seems like this is better suited for the Guides & Questions section, sorry.

Welcome back from WOW! Read this http://sc2gg.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4606 all the build orders you will even need for SC. You always have to macro! Never loose too much time with microing because that can cost you the game! For example you try to execute a storm drop but you spend too much time with that you kill couple of workers but than your opponent attacks and OH NO you have no units! Lots of people (including me) make that mistake wuite often. So my advice is try to focus on the macro because thats what really sucks with most noobs (including me). Ive seen tons of players with 100 APM microing 5 units! SC is mostly about macro at this level. Im saying all of this because I know in WOW you dont have to control 50 units at once. Good Luck!

Thanks for your help, I often notice that when I get into some intense micro, my resources shoot up because my macro is horrible. Also, I feel like I have to build pylons every 30 seconds, is this because I am not sending in my forces enough to pressure my opponent?

Finally, what are the most common maps used in iccup and proleagues that I should be practicing on and where can I download them?
BachHo
You can download maps here. Most common maps played right now imo is Heartbreak Ridge, Destination, and Fighting Spirit. I can always find games for these three maps when I use them.

As for your macro question, post a replay and we'll try to help.

Thanks for the link and the tips on maps, I have been exclusively playing Heartbreak Ridge lately since it was the only map I had, and after watching some progamers play it seems like a 12 nexus type build is the way to go on that map.

Now it seems like the map plays a huge part into what build a player decides to use, I have only been playing against the computer to work on my macro before I play on bnet, is this a bad decision or should I go straight into bnet with no experience on maps other than hbr?

You dont know how bad most ppl at B.Net are, do you? biggrin.gif BTW you need to build a pylon before the supply block. Thats very important (Im still trying to master it). Can you upload a replay of yours here pls? It will be very helpfull so we can see what you are doing wrong. Nobody will laugh (or Ill kick their asses). Everybodys been in the same position. If you dont know how to do it let me explain. You select the browse button you go to your SC folder (usually in disk C) you get in folder Maps => replays you select the one you want and than click upload. In the SC2GG lots of ppl are in your situation so you can find someone to practise with if you want on IRC. cool.gif As far as Ive seen mostly 5 maps are used in B.Net - Lost Temple, Python, BGH, Hunters, Fastest. So for a 101 its good to know LT and Python as they are the most common maps check Destination also.

P.S. scouting is always important no matter what map you play.

How exactly do I record them?
