Hey all,

I've been lurking (and dealing 20 damage per hit) for a while on SC2gg, and decided to start doing some commentaries of my own because I have some free time this month. Since there's so many commentators on new games, and I really like some of the old greats in Korean progaming, I'm doing videos now of past series that haven't been commentated in English yet. Basically, Starleague finals, games with some of the top players, or games well known for their innovative plays.

I'm a big Savior fan, and I wanted to show some of his games back in his prime, so my first series is a ZvZ at the MSL S2 finals, in Nov. 2006 (Savior v Silver). This is Savior at his peak, and it's a fast-paced set of games:

I'm a newb at these commentaries, of course, so let me know what you think about video/sound quality and my style. Right now I'm using CamStudio and Windows Movie Maker, and just recording audio over YouTube videos of the past games. If you can help me with getting higher quality videos , that'd be great too.

Hi Cholera - I think I've seen you around before, perhaps on IRC or on the old forums, I don't know, but I recognize your name from someplace.

I've watched your videos, and I think you've made a good first attempt. It's unfortunate that higher quality videos were not available for you to use, because that one there was pretty crummy, hehe. I do like the idea of doing older/classic games, because you're right, a lot of the games that were played in the past were very good game.

So far, you've definitely got a good voice, nice and smooth sounding which is good, and it seems like you tend to describe what's going on for the most part. Sometimes it seems like you're not paying full attention, though, or perhaps you're not quite used to doing this as you will be eventually. Whatever the case, it seems like you sometimes miss a couple things - for example, in the match two, when you were talking about how Silver should get ling speed, well, he already had ling speed. It's unfortunate that making a simple mistake can cause an issue like that, but you'd be surprised what a person will bash you for doing. Sometimes you also seemed to get caught talking about things that weren't the game you were commentating on, and missing the action in favor of it.

The other thing I noticed you doing is pausing for periods of time, and that really breaks the flow of a game, when it's going on. That's definitely something to actively work on, there's always going to be something to talk about and it's a good idea to be prepared for when the game lulls for a second.

Hey, I just finished posting Game 1 of the OSL Season 3 Finals of Nada v Savior, back in February 2007. Sorry, my voice gets a bit hoarse towards the end. Watch this one first if you want my best commentary so far - it's a better game than the Savior/Silver series.

Thanks for the comments Radivel - I'll try to hunt down some better vods/software to use for my future videos. Maybe invest in GunCam or something.

Thanks for the comments again. I just watched my Youtube vids again, and I didn't realize they were that bad in quality. They looked a lot better after I shot them with Camstudio, before I put them through Windows Movie Maker.

Quick question, what settings are you guys using for your "Publish Video" in MovieMaker? I'm just using "recommended settings for system", and a 30 minute game thats 700 mb in .avi goes to like 100 mb in .wmv. So maybe I should put it higher?

Also, any idea where I can download vods to, say, the OSL or MSL finals in the past?

Just finished casting a Boxer v. Yellow series from the 2001 Coca-Cola OSL Finals! I'm out of classic series that I was planning on originally doing, since I was just going to do sampling of my favorite players. So, I'm taking suggestions for any progame series from the last 7 years for my next couple of videos. I also may do some exciting single games - I can think of a couple from past Pimpest Plays lists.

The Boxer v Yellow series is up, and I have to say it's quite old-school and fun, including one game where we see .. offensive sunken colonies (!) Take a look, and let me know what other series/games you'd like to see commentaries on!

You might have seen it already, but there is an excellent game in the 2006 season 1 msl. Kingdom vs Reach. Its a super crazy PvP, also very long. I dont know about the other games in the set though I never watched them.

I like the Kingdom v Reach suggestion, I did see it on the Pimpest Play list when I was selecting other videos. The only drawback is its length, but I'll add it to my list. BTW my videos are now organized into playlists, which make them A LOT easier to view:

OOH man if I was evil I'd ask for you to do a commentary on the Blackmaster v Dunaj game in 2004... Have fun commentating for 3 hours and 15 minutes . But seriously, I want to see more Nada games.

As for really specific games, Boxer's comeback is the most awesome thing ever. I don't know who he played against, but I do know that it was on Paradoxxx, if that narrows it down at all (any help with his opponent guys??). It is up on VioleTAK's Youtube account.

I think it was Joyo. theres a version on youtube with translations of what the koreans are saying, so it doesnt really need commentary as much as other games.

Here's my commentaries for Airforce ACE v Samsung Khan, played 4/16/08! It's been a long day of commentating and struggling with YouTube, but they are up finally. In Game 4 my voice sounds like Darth Vader / the girl from the Exorcist for a bit due to audio distortion, but I can't fix that unless I do the whole commentary over, so hopefully you guys can enjoy that too. The VODs are based off of high quality AVI files, so the &fmt=18 trick should work for YouTube. Check them out for some hot Boxer / Oversky / Stork action. The best game is probably the 2v2 match, though, which has some really different and innovative play.

Another classic Pimpest Play game - this time, Nada v Hot-Forever in the Ghem TV Starleague in 2002. There are two Pimpest Plays in this game, one of which even got a nickname of "The Divine Wind", and they tied for #1 in the 2003 PP list! I had a great time casting this one, and I think this is a must-see even among the PP's I've done.

Absolutely amazing game and commentary. That game was just freaking ridiculous in scale, island maps should make a comeback just for the great entertainment they can provide.
