hey guys ive been a long time fan and watcher of the youtube vids for a while now and im very appreciative of them. there are only two things that irk me, when commentators call the player by the wrong name and when they dont want to spoil the outcome of a previous match.

ive noticed that everyone from time to time will call players the wrong name for a period of the match, and its really really annoying. i understand its just a mistake, but if you guys could do whatever necessary to prevent that from happening, that would be awesome. i dont know if it means you put up big signs or something to just remind you or whatever.

when a commentator does a set or a series of matches i dont think its the commentators fault for giving outcome information of a previous match. its the viewers responsibility to watch the matches in order. in pro sports, the commentators dont wait to spoil the outcomes of last weeks games. it is however, understandable to not spoil the outcomes of any matches done on another commentators account. so if its later match in a MSL group or a Proleague set, go ahead and discuss meaningful plays done in set 1 or a previous match.

those are just my views though. thanks

I can agree on the spoiling part.

I'd think everyone is doing everything possible to do it already. Usually when this happens (I would THINK) it's because they went onto another train of thought with other players and mistook the player for that person or something around that means.

i understand its an unintentional error. i am just urging a more conscience effort to prevent it from happening.

The name thing is something that usually happens when a commentator has done three or four commentaries in a row - it just crawls in your subconscious and there is not a lot you can do about it. Most of the time you won't notice it yourself. I once called Science vessels 'facilities' for a whole commentary and I only noticed after I posted it on youtube.
In duals it's easy to solve, but solo's it's inevitable.

On spoilers, I have to say - 'viewer beware' - it sometimes damages the quality of the vid if you have to take a 5 second gap every time you have to mention something from another match. Once you are commentating, your not going to remember to do these things. You have to keep track of too many things at once. In some games, you only have a few seconds to mention a previous play before something else happens and the moment has passed. Also, you have to have filler for the first few minutes of a game otherwise things can get boring real fast - commentary is entertainment after all.

In general, I have a 1 to 2 week time limit for no-spoiler zone in my commentaries, after which all games are fair game to be discussed in my commentary. I will tend to delay longer for more prominent games, and less for lower-level games that have fewer viewers. I also never had a problem with anyone complaining about spoiler the previous games I've just cast in a series, so I've never tried to not talk about them.
