Alright, I'm pretty upset about this game. I just don't understand what to do to prevent something like this from happening-- or, more importantly, how to break a contain like this once it gets set up.

LoL, once the Terran manages to contain you, it's almost impossible to break free if you don't have air units (mutalisks). Your biggest mistake is that you massed hydras and zerglings vs Tanks and Goliaths.

Tanks + Gols > Hydras + Lings

What you should have done is block your expo with 5 sunks (to keep out raiding Vultures) and go for early Spire and mass Mutas. The enemy's metal build is vulnerable to a mutalisk attack.

Building just 8 mutas would most likely be enough to make him stop building tanks and spam Goliaths or Marines & Medics. Then you can change your tactics and mass hydras and zerglings with mutas for air support.

Huh is a 12 pool viable in TvZ? I don't see a real reason either go 9 pool or 12 hatch O_o

I notice his depot will block a scanner so wow....

I'll write as I watch:
-You got supply blocked at 17 is that normal for zerg?
-You cut gas as well which idk is right or not but you couldve had a faster lair and not worry since he had 1 marine
-You should've expect some sort of mech play too because hes on one base and hardly marines.
-Yeah his base was so fucking open, but this was because hes noob botching TvZ mech play. Against a normal player he'd have range+gol, so don't make it your objective to kill his eco, but you need only like 5 muta with ling+hydra.
-I think you were powering drones too long and you had a shitload of money piled

I'm not gonna write anymore because hes doing really dumbshit and getting away with it, and the best thing I can say is don't let him.

You were getting queen and he STILL didn't have goli so start there. Then read some guides on TeamLiquid on ZvT mech heres an audio thing by Day[9] http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessag...?topic_id=85543

Also I have to say that you totally lacked any early game pressure on him. I have rarely fought such a passive Z in my entire career blink.gif

You've obviously never played my Z tongue.gif.

EDIT: I think the reason for this is that I'm like allergic to making sunkens though lol... I never have any static defenses and that has killed me wayyy too often.

Yeah, I wanted to get that third hatch down fast... I probably didn't need to do that, though.

Now here's something I actually have a question about. Should I just start getting an army when my tech is up (whether it's muta or some hydras earlier on so I have a couple out for when lurker finishes), or is it a better idea to pump a control group or two of lings out before hand for support?

Never got into his base that game. :/ I need to be more push-y, but he seems to turn off econ and get an army up just before I do, so when I move out I'm pushed back time and time again. All of my extra production goes into pushing into his bigger army. I guess that's pretty easy to sort out, though.

This is kind of related: Defilers. They are very strong, and I am very bad with them. I mix 'em in with my control groups of units, but they're never around when needed-- any suggestions on compensating for their incredible slowness?

Man, that's what's getting me. I'm kinda familiar with all of the ideas, but when I actually end up playing it falls apart. Of course, this thread has been really helpful (as they always are) so I'll probably have another replay tonight of me doing something slightly less dumb. smile.gif
