The quote from the article is "Morhaime expects to launch Starcraft II by the end of the year, though he also notes that it will only ship once the game is done." His exact words probably weren't recorded, but either way it definitely sounds hopeful for a November or December release date, which is pretty exciting. Of course, hopeful is far from certain, but it least it's something.

I really expect it to be released around November. There is so much that makes sense economically for Blizzard to do so at that time versus any time in the next four months after that that I don't see it going beyond November.

The only strike I see against that is that Blizzard is probably in contact with the Korean teams and leagues about the SC2 release date, given that they probably don't want to release SC2 halfway through an OSL, MSL or especially Proleague (at least, you wouldn't think so..), and a November release date would make the next Proleague extremely short, or be halfway through it.

If they really reslease it in November, that would be awesome!
But I also think that there should be some talk to the Korean scene, maybe release it later in Korea.

eh, blizzards always been unstable for release dates sleep.gif
hopefully theyre ready to release- i can wait another year for the perfect sequel

They might delay it as well. Blizzard is known for that kind of stuff

They're going to have to be able to produce these things damn fast. Sure, they can have the game ready by November, but given the ridiculous number of preorders and the even more ridiculous number of people waiting eagerly to snatch the games up as soon as they are released, they will need to stock a ton of them before the release date. And experience shows that this can take a while.

Besides, they still have to release the Beta (mid-late June?), allow people to test it, then report on the results, edit it several times, and continue to get feedback until they think it is ready. This must take at least a few months. After this (late September?) they presumably will need to put the finishing touches on the game, map editor, and B.net, finish the 9,000 other files the game is packaged with (although I'm assuming the single player will be done by then), copyright stuff, patent stuff, trademark stuff, etc. Then they need to produce and distribute it. Maybe it will be ready by (late) November, but I think they will have to move quickly to do it.

November would be nice, but since i only discovered the starcraft pro scene about a year ago i'm not too anxious to have it turned upside down by starcraft two.

I am excited about the game, but i don't feel like i've gotten my fill of regular starcraft yet so i can wait for a while longer

I agree. A lot of the stuff in Starcraft 2 looks cool, but a lot of it looks really stupid to me as well. I'll buy it and play it, but part of me thinks that Starcraft: Broodwar was so near perfection that it'll be hard for SC2 to replace it. I get disappointed with every unit they take out... I'll miss reavers and even scourge. What I really would have liked to see is simply working from the base of SC:BW, perhaps even keeping it in 2d (though definitely improving the resolution), applying some of their cool additions like supply depots that sink into the ground and creep that speeds units up and mana transfer between spellcasters, fixing some of the bugs, perhaps adding a unit or two, tweaking stats here and there to make some units slightly more viable than they are now, but by and large keeping the game the same.

I hope other people will do this as well, but I'm not going to abandon SC:BW when SCII comes out. The ratio of BW to SC2 will vary depending on the quality of the latter, but I'll make sure to play SC proper every once in a while. I just hope people will still be around for me to play with...
