hi i am a zerg player and i am having a lot of trouble balancing my army and my drones, my friend tells me that it is very important to balance both but..hes not being helpful and isnt telling me how i know when to start making units and when i need more drones. I always start out with a 9 pool 6 zerglings rush, as an attack and scout, and try to build trying to counter what i see. But after my opponent attacks me once and gets to my drones i have no idea on how to balance them again. how do i know when i have enough drones or when i have enough minerals to keep pumping units.

When I attempt zerg I basically try to get 1/3 drones 2/3 army units, but I'm not a real zerg person, so I'm not the best person to ask.

It depends on what your opponent is doing for example if your against toss and you see a forge and cannons with your 6 lings you mass produce dones and maybe get another hatch. If you see 2 gates keep building lings and get a sunk until he decides to stop and tech. Early game you want to build the minimal amount of lings and def that you think you can hold off any attack so that you can produce drones. This is why most zerg players put over lords and use scouting lings to see when and where their opponent will push out and attack so that they can produce units when they actually come to attack.

It comes with experience. Zerg is very different from the other 2 races, so you never have a set number or 'balance' to work towards. Just play more and more games, and you should get the hang of it. Playing the other races will also give you more knowledge so you can play your main race better.

i agree with syuu, zerg arent as easily measurable in the way that toss or terran are due to larvae and stuff like that... keep in mind that zerg need way more expansions then the other two races.
